fluidity is the new brand bringing together Stour Kayak and The Paddle Company — two paddlesports businesses that have spent the past five years helping people enjoy some of the most beautiful waterways in Suffolk and Essex.
What began on the idyllic River Stour has grown into something bigger. From 2026, these two trusted names come together under one brand, with one shared mission: to open more of Britain’s most beautiful waterways to more people.
Led by Richard and Robin, Fluidity continues to offer the same outstanding customer service, high-quality craft and memorable on-the-water experiences that customers have come to know and love. But our ambition is growing.
We’ve always believed paddlesports should be for everyone — not just experienced enthusiasts, but anyone who wants to get outside, explore the water and enjoy a new adventure. That belief is at the heart of Fluidity.
Our story began on the stunning River Stour, a landscape made famous by artists such as John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough. Rich in natural beauty and wildlife, it remains one of the most peaceful and picturesque places to explore by water, with kingfishers, grey herons, damselflies, butterflies, swans and grazing cattle all part of the experience.
Today, we offer paddlesports hire, guided experiences, tours, tuition and group adventures across a growing number of scenic locations.
At The Henny Swan, we offer kayak, canoe and rowing boat hire, as well as guided tours, team-building experiences, corporate events and expert tuition, all set in the heart of the beautiful English countryside.
At The Anchor Inn, Nayland, we offer kayak and paddleboard hire in another spectacular stretch of Suffolk and Essex countryside.
And this is only the beginning. As Fluidity grows, we are expanding to new locations, beginning with Lakeside in Thurrock (where we’ll offer kayak, rowing boat and paddleboard hire), with more beautiful waterside destinations across the East of England to follow.
Alongside this growth, we’ll be introducing new paddle adventures, a loyalty scheme, and new efforts to improve, conserve and maintain the waterways and lakes we care so deeply about.
Fluidity is about more than a new name. It’s a new chapter, a bigger vision, and an ongoing commitment to helping more people experience the joy of being on the water.

Find us a short, four-mile drive away from Sudbury, Suffolk, in the village of Great Henny. We operate from the riverside garden at The Henny Swan, a highly-regarded and revered pub, with an extensive drinks menu, superb food, a large pub garden and views across the surrounding meadows.

Location 7-miles from Colchester in the historic village of Nayland. We operate from the riverside garden at The Anchor Inn, a popular and well-reviewed pub with exceptional food, fantastic drinks and a beautiful riverside garden.

Located on the former diving lake at Lakeside Shopping Centre in Grays, Essex, our Lakeside site sits alongside a range of leisure and recreational facilities. It’s the perfect one-stop destination for an adventurous family day out, a fun date, or a relaxed waterside experience.

What’s on offer?
Craft Hire
We offer single kayaks, tandem kayaks (two-persons), Canadian canoes, paddle boards and rowing boats. All our craft are chosen for their manoeuvrability, stability and style. Available for 1, 2, 4, 6hr hire or multi-day hire. All craft hire include paddle(s), buoyancy aid(s), navigation map, and a thorough pre-launch briefing and safety talk.
Tuition and Lessons
Tuition and lesson are available from our friendly, patient and expert instructors. We offer open group lessons, and additionally private, bespoke tuition. Corporate and Team Building
We offer tailored team-building and corporate experiences, including single and multi-day events, across our hire locations. Our expertly curated programs are designed for groups of up to 80 participants, combining thrilling water-based activities with land-based adventures and optional overnight camping for an unforgettable experience. What amenities and facilities are there?
The Henny Swan, Great Henny (Sudbury)
Private launching of personal watercraft is only permitted from the time the pub opens. This includes those who are a part of a group that are additionally hiring from us. Only those who are hiring our craft can launch before the pub opens.
Toilet and washroom facilities are available when the pub is open, currently from 11.30am (12 noon on Sundays). We recommend checking their website for up-to-date opening times. Limited parking is available, but please travel in as few cars as possible. Food and drink are served from the Henny Swan. We recommend booking a table for their outside/inside restaurant, but reservations cannot be made for the riverside garden. There are no picnic facilities onsite, but you are welcome to take picnics on our boats.
The Anchor Inn, Nayland (Colchester)
Toilet and washroom facilities are available when the pub is open.
Limited parking is available, along the road and in overflow carpark at The Anchor Inn. Please travel in as few cars as possible.
Food and drink are available from The Anchor Inn. We recommend booking a table ahead of time.
There are no picnic facilities onsite, but you are welcome to take picnics on our boats.
Lakeside Shopping Centre (Grays, Essex)
Toilet and washroom facilities are available within Lakeside Shopping Centre during normal opening hours. Changing facilities are available at our launch point. Ample parking is available onsite.
With a wide range of shops, restaurants, cafés and leisure facilities close by, Lakeside is the perfect destination for combining time on the water with a wider day out.
While there are no dedicated picnic facilities at the launch point, there is an abundance of hospitality venues (incl. major high street brands) onsite.

Lakeside Shopping Centre
We may choose to not open if the weather is forecast to be poor. To guarantee availability, please book ahead (up until midnight the day before).
Our water craft
We don’t offer the bulky rental-spec watercraft typically offered by outdoor hire centres. Across all our hire locations, our watercraft are exceptionally stable, manoeuvrable in the water and stylish. We use Wave Sport Scooter, Wave Sport Gemini, Tootega kayaks and FeelFree kayaks which are fitted with padded seats for comfortable paddling. Our rowing boats are stable and sturdy, and perfect for gentle family paddles. Our Paddle Boards are the best on the market, including Red and Gladiator Paddleboards.
You will receive everything you need for your adventure, including navigation map, paddle(s)/oars and buoyancy aid(s). A limited number of dry bags and waterproof phone cases are available for you to use.
